87.8 MW KAKONO HYDROPOWER PROJECT

CONSULTANCY SERVICES FOR CONSTRUCTION SUPERVISION AND MANAGEMENT OF THE 87.8 MW KAKONO HYDROPOWER PROJECT IN KAGERA REGION

The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania has received financing from the African Development Bank (AfDB), French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU) towards cost of the 87.8MW Kakono Hydropower Project (HPP), and intends to apply part of the agreed amount to payments under the contract for “consultancy services for construction supervision and management of Kakono HPP in Kagera Region” in the north western part of Tanzania.
The services under this project will entirely include and not limited to the following:
a) Design review of existing feasibility study reports and prepare the associated works bidding documents,
b) Support the client in the procurement of works pertaining to the Kakono HPP,
c) Construction supervision of works comprising:
i. 87.8 MW Kakono hydropower plant and associated facilities,
ii. 38.5 km 220 kV evacuation transmission line from the power plant switchyard to the existing Kyaka 132/33 kV substation,
iii. Uprating the existing substation from 132/33 kV to 220/132/33 kV.
In line with the International Commission on Large Dams, the construction supervision services will be conducted in collaboration with an independent panel of experts. The panel of experts, that is to be recruited separately, will provide support and guidance to the Project Implementation Team on matters pertaining to the construction of the hydropower plant in accordance with international best practices.
The Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO), the client, now invites eligible consultants to indicate their interest in providing these services. Interested Consultants must provide information indicating that they are qualified to perform the services (brochures, description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions, availability of appropriate skills among staff, etc.).
Consultants may constitute joint ventures to enhance their chances of qualification.
Eligibility criteria, establishment of the short-list and the selection procedure shall be in accordance with the African Development Bank’s “Procurement Policy for Bank Group Funded Operations” dated October 2015, which is available on the Bank’s website at http://www.afdb.org.
Interested consultants may obtain further information at the address below during office hours 09.00 – 12.30 hours and 14.00 – 16.30 hours, East African Time, (Monday to Friday) excluding public holidays.
Expressions of Interest must be delivered to the address below during office hours no later than 21st July, 2023 at 10:30 Hrs East African Time.
